An oxygen bar is a place that sells oxygen for customers to breathe through small tubes hooked over the ears and under the nose. You can even add different scents or “flavors” to your oxygen to make it smell or “taste” better. Let’s face it: who doesn’t like to smell nice smells? The typical oxygen experience can last anywhere from 1 minute to 20 minutes, and the price is usually about $1 per minute.

Why Is Oxygen Good for You?

It has been claimed by alternative medicine that the human body is oxygen-deprived and that more oxygen can help remove toxins. Oxygen therapy fans say that oxygen can do the following:

Reduce stress

Increase energy and alertness

Lessen the effects of hangovers

Diminish headaches

Decrease sinus problems

Improve concentration

Help you bounce back faster from physical exertion

Increase endurance during exercise

Relax the body generally

Concerns Regarding Oxygen Bars

One of the FDA’s concerns about oxygen is the use of different flavors with the oxygen. Some oxygen bars may use oil-free, food-grade products to produce the flavors. However, be wary of the use of aromatic oils. Inhaling oily substances can lead to an inflammation of the lungs. You also should be aware of the risk of inhaling allergens or bacteria.

Even though the medical community does not support oxygen bars, if you are healthy and enjoy oxygen bars, why not do it? If you experience positive side effects such as increased energy or just an overall feeling of positive well-being, then there is little to no harm to using oxygen bars. The American Lung Association says that there is “no evidence that oxygen at the low flow levels used in bars can be dangerous to a normal person’s health.”

Ionized Water: Oxygen in Your Glass!

Instead of paying $1 per minute to breathe oxygen, you can drink oxygenated water straight from your water ionizer machine. The bubbles in your glass of ionized water are actually oxygen bubbles! Ionized water is broken down into smaller molecules, which makes it easier for the cells in your body to absorb. Ionized alkaline water is packed with oxygen and antioxidants. You get an energy boost and terrific hydration from drinking oxygenated water, and it’s all available directly from your tap!

Have you ever been to an oxygen bar?
